In the early days of 2022, Microsoft made waves by purchasing Activision Blizzard. The company is responsible for some of the biggest online franchises of all time (starcraft and overwatch), the biggest MMO ever (world of warcraft), and the highest-grossing annual series (call of duty), could possibly become an Xbox exclusive developer. And for a price tag of over $70 billion, it was the largest acquisition in gaming history.
With such a massive acquisition taking place, Sony was quick to respond with one of their own. Sony will be purchasing the original Halo developer for a relatively tame price tag of just $3.6 billion. It is one of three major consolidations to happen in the games industry in a single month.
According to the fine print, the original Halo development studio will become an independent subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). The current management team at Bungie will be part of the board of directors, which will include the current CEO.

Infinity Ward’s new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was shown off a bit more on July 11th, showcasing a new Gunfight Mode that’s meant for busy players looking for a fast bit of action.
The mode is 2-on-2 action and is one of 20 game modes that have been announced for the title. The game has 40-second rounds and urges players to be wise about their strategy, whereas most games have over-the-top action for rounds. There is no health regeneration, and the first squad that racks up six victories takes the entire match.
Other differences from popular Call of Duty modes include customizable load-outs, with weapons pre-determined before you start your round. The final number of maps for Gunfight Mode isn’t set in stone, but Infinity Ward has indicated that they’re looking at around three maps.
We watched some of the streams today, and while it’s definitely Call of Duty, there is a whole element that feels different, as you have to be very

Activision executives confirmed yesterday that the new Call of Duty will be announced soon, setting the internet ablaze with anticipation and rumors.
The revelation was made during a phone call with investors, where executives generally give boring information about revenues, debts, and such. Once in a while though, we’re treated to good nuggets of information, and this proved to be one such time. According to the company, Activision will be announcing the next title sometime before the end of June.
There are rumors that the newest entry into the series will be Modern Warfare 4, but that is so far unsubstantiated. The game is being developed by Infinity Ward, with their most recent game being Black Ops 4, which launched in October of last year. The game was reviewed well and introduced a Battle Royale mode.
Activision seems keen on keeping player numbers up post-launch for the newest entry, with COO Collister Johnson noting: “We

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 now out and available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the reviews are starting to roll in.
The general consensus for Black Ops 4 is very good. In fact, many people are claiming Black Ops 4 to be the best COD game for a long, long time.
It seems that long term COD lovers and COD haters are coming together to enjoy Black Ops 4.
There are three key elements to Black Ops 4’s latest success. The first is the refined multiplayer, which adds important changes to health, gadgets, and overall balancing.
These changes are huge for competitive gameplay and make a big difference for the casual players, too. It’s a fresh change for COD that has brought a lot of players back to the franchise for the first time in years.
The second winning feature for Black Ops 4, and perhaps the most impactful, is the new Blackout Battle Royale mode. Many people are putting down Fortnite for the first time since it launched to pick up and play Blackout. Interestingly,

While all of the hype has been surrounding Blackout recently, Treyarch certainly hasn't neglected the standard Black Ops 4 multiplayer by any means.
In fact, Treyarch has been very busy balancing and updating the game after their past multiplayer beta, and they have just now announced two new maps that'll be appearing in Black Ops 4's multiplayer.
The first map is Summit. This is a fan favorite from the very first Black Ops game, and many people are happy to see it return.
Summit is a research facility covered in snow. It's a fairly small map but it offers some excellent opportunities for close quarter combat.
The second map that Treyarch announced is Morocco. This is a brand new map that Treyarch mentioned will be available from October 12. Morocco takes part in a small Moroccan village. The full description for this map is as follows:
“Rebels in a small Moroccan village are using government military support planes as target practices as they fly over

If you’re a diehard Call of Duty fan, you’ll already know the majority of game modes featured in most games like the back of your hand.
One popular game variant that has seen a lot of popularity in the past is Hardcore mode. Typically, a COD game will have hardcore variants of existing game types. For example, hardcore Search and Destroy or Team Deathmatch.
Hardcore mode reduces a player’s HUD and makes the time to kill far quicker. This makes dying a lot easier, hence the name. There has always been a mixed reception for hardcore mode, but many players love it.
Thankfully, Treyarch announced that hardcore mode will be coming to the multiplayer for Black Ops 4. No details have been shared about how it will work, though. With Black Ops 4 using an entirely new health system, the hardcore mode will need to be adjusted to fit this system.
Treyarch also revealed that while the standard multiplayer will get a hardcore mode, Blackout will not get such a mode. There

COD Blackout has been up and available on beta for PS4 pre-orderers this week and we’ve had the chance to get our hands on it.
We have to say that we’re very impressed with what we’ve seen so far. There was a lot of criticism directed toward Activision when the Blackout mode was announced, but we think that’ll all be dropped once everybody gets their hands on the game.
In Blackout, 88 players join the same open world map. Just like other battle royale games, the idea is that only one player or team can survive.
You’ll choose where you land and from there you must pick up loot scattered around the world. You’ll find everything from SMGs to RPGs on the ground, as well as a range of utility items.
Blackout also has a selection of vehicles in the world, including helicopters, large trucks, and ATVs. This is very exciting to see - vehicles are something we haven’t seen in Call of Duty for a very, very long time.
The vehicles work smoothly, but they fit into
